is the best time of year to visit Tahiti?
The weather changes very little during the year. Temperatures
average around 80º and are a little cooler in the winter (Jun-Aug)
and slightly warmer and more humid during summer (Dec-Feb).
When is the rainy season?
Tahiti typically does not have a heavy rainy season. It
receives intermittent tropical showers during the year with slightly
more in the summer months.
How much does it cost?
Tahiti offers a broad range of prices. Seven nights in a
moderate/budget hotel begin at $849 per person including roundtrip
air fare from Los Angeles. Seven nights at a mid-priced first class
hotel begin at $1199 per person with air. And prices at a superior
hotel begin at about $1649 per person including air.
I hear the food is expensive. Is It?
Prices in Tahiti are similar to other resorts found in Hawaii, the
Caribbean and elsewhere which can be expensive. But there are many
options to the full-service restaurants that can help hold your food
costs down--like purchasing a meal plan or eating like the
locals.
Do I need a passport? What about a Visa?
A passport is required but a visa is not. You must possess a
valid passport and a return airline ticket to the U.S.
Is the water safe to drink?
Yes the water is very clean and safe. If your prefer
bottled water, however, it is readily available.
How long does it take to fly there?
Flying time from Los Angeles is 7½ hours, approximately two hours
farther than Hawaii and about 7 hours shorter than Sydney,
Australia.
Are there any poisonous snakes or spiders?
None at all.
How is the crime rate?
There is little to no crime in the islands. Wherever you
travel, however, you should always keep an eye on your valuables
even if only to protect them from other tourists.
What kind of tropical diseases exist in Tahiti?
The islanders are very clean and healthy and there are no
tropical diseases to worry about.
Does Tahiti have any kind of night life?
On the islands of Bora Bora, Moorea and Huahine, hotels are the
center of activity and the night life includes local musicians and
fabulous Polynesian dance shows. The island of Tahiti has a few
night spots in downtown Papeete where the drinks are expensive and
the locals love telling jokes, usually at a visiting American's
expense.
How is the shopping?
Limited to island crafts, hand-carved items and the world famous
black pearls. This is not the place to buy crystal, silver,
stainless or similar items.
